Cutting edge theatre maker Sylvaine Strike collaborates with an electrifying cast and the highly acclaimed writer/ dramaturge Craig Higginson to bring you an enticing slice of a family dinner.

Four children re-unite with their mother over a Friday night meal where a world of love, sibling rivalry, confused genetics, domesticity, tradition and, of course, food… is unveiled. Funny and deeply moving, this is a journey into the very heart of a family redefined by the South African existence.

Featuring: Annabel Linder, Brian Webber, Janet Carpede, Khabonina Qubeka, William Harding and Karin van der Laag

Brimming with humour, rage and longing, this celebrated new South African play provides a minute exploration of an increasingly hazardous romantic entanglement and an insight into some of the tensions between the ‘first’ and ‘third’ worlds. Part psychological thriller and part a State of the Nation analysis, it tackles issues such as language, power, identity, sex, past trauma, class, exile and refugees – tensions that run through South African society and beyond.

REVIEW: The title sounds lightweight and inconsequential, but this is a glorious and intense piece of theatre for the theatre-going cognoscenti. For people looking for brilliant acting, a challenging, thought-provoking script, witty dialogue, and tight direction where every moment is flawless. It’s an evening that rewards the intellect rather than a show that washes over you with mindless entertainment. – Lesley Stones { Read }

Dealing with questions of identity, history and terminal illness, Death of a Colonialist is a funny, sad, profound and passionate play that weaves between the tragedy of our past and the challenges of our present.

Greg Latter, writer of the films Forgiveness and Goodbye Bafana, returns to his theatrical roots with this powerhouse drama about a disintegrating white academic family in Grahamstown. Death of a Colonialist tells the story of Harold Smith, an aging, eccentric, unpredictable but extremely passionate history teacher at a high school in Grahamstown. Obsessed with the history of the amaXhosa, he is so wrapped up in his teaching world that he fails to be aware of the crises that are raging in his family. Death of a Colonialist stars Jamie Bartlett, Shirley Johnston, Theo Landey and Ashleigh Harvey.
