A walk to explore Joburg street art with Derek Smith.

We’re doing the walk on Tuesday 4 Jan and again on Sunday 16 Jan 2011.

We meet in front of Museum Africa at 07:30.
Park at the Market Theatre Parking off Miram Makeba Street, Newtown.

SUNDAY 16th: Explore incredible works under the double-decker motorway next to Museum Africa. From Newtown we drive in convoy to Louis Botha Ave where there’s a lot of street art. We then head into Troyeville where there is lots of graffiti and photo opportunities. We end at the Troyeville Hotel for an early lunch.

TUESDAY 4th: From Newtown we drive to Pageview and then do the Parkhurst Skatepark and stop at the Odd Cafe in Greenside that has been done by Mars & his crew recently for an early lunch.

DIRECTIONS TO MEET UP PARKING: From Jan Smuts Ave (becomes Bertha) cross Nelson Mandela bridge. Right at first robots into Carr Street. Left at robots into Miriam Makeba (there’s a garage and a sign that says market Theatre parking). Right into parking at robot.

Walk through the Market Theatre complex. You’ll see the Market Theatre and Gramadoelas on the right. Walk past these and to the front where you’ll find Museum Africa which is in front of Mary Fitzgerald Square on Bree Street.

Join for our end of year get together to celebrate a year of photo walking.

There will be a projector set up and it will be great if everyone could bring along about 5-10 photos on a flash drive to talk about for a few minutes. The time each person will have is going to be dependent on how many people would like to partake in speaking about their photos in our show and tell.

RSVP for catering on the facebook event – only say YES if you’re sure you’ll be attending to be counted. I’ll let you know costs once Oriel has a quote, so please RSVP asap.

The venue can accommodate about 30 people and we could head
to a venue in Linden, Rosebank, Parkhurst or Melville after for dinner.

Join on Saturday 27 November as we explore Yeoville and it’s colourful streets. Bring along a camera and good walking shoes.

We meet at the Shoprite rooftop at 3pm.

Learn about working in a professional photographic studio, lighting, working with models, make up and people in the fashion industry.

As per all of our Joburg Photowalkers event, this event is driven by participation on our facebook fan page and on our google group.

We’re doing a larger scale location fashion photo shoot event in November.. so this is our chance to learn a few things on a smaller scale first.

Back to JAG via De Villiers and Klein Streets
We have permission is to go inside JAG – with a few guidelines – like no tripods and no flash photography etc..

Join for the Friends of the Rail annual winter photographic event, and experience the power and majesty of steam on a winter’s morning!

We meet at the FOTR Capital Park depot on Sunday 30 May at 06h00.

Enjoy coffee and rusks as one of our superb steam locomotives brews up alongside. At sunrise we will begin the photography, with great steam and smoke effects on offer. The locomotive will be positioned in various locations and you will be able to photograph the human activity around her too while she is serviced by the crew, who will be dressed in traditional railway footplate attire.

Opportunities like this are becoming rarer by the day, so grab this chance while you can. The fee for the morning is R150, payable in advance to guarantee participation. Places are limited so book now to avoid disappointment!
